1. Sweet Liberty

Sweet Liberty has been described as not just the best bar in Miami but perhaps the whole state of Florida and at number 21 of the best 50 bars in the world, it lives up to the claim. Billed as a neighbourhood cocktail bar, it is so much more. The brainchild of the mixology vanguard John Lermayer, along with restaurateur David Martinez and Blackbird Ordinary’s Dan Binkiewicz, Sweet Liberty must be at the top of your list on any visit to the city.

6. Ball & Chain

The Ball & Chain has been drawing nighthawks ever since it was originally opened in 1935. While the owners may have changed over the years it has still managed to maintain a sense of respect for the past and the greats such as Billie Holiday and Count Basie, who played under its roof. So, if you’re into Jazz or Salsa or just want to have an authentic experience, the Ball & Chain, is the place to go.

9. Mama Tried

Mama Tried is a bit of a contradiction. It’s a dive bar, meets sports bar, meets cocktail bar with a dance floor thrown in for good measure and what appears to be a library next to the bathrooms. This is explained somewhat on their website where they state that “Mama Tried is owned and operated by bartenders, librarians, construction workers, filmmakers, DJ’s, teachers, bowling enthusiasts, snowcone peddlers and water polo coaches”. Probably best not to over think it.

10. The Regent Cocktail Club

When you step into the Regent you are transported back to the 1940’s. With its low-slung, dark leather banquettes and soaring ceilings, the cocktail club looks like a space straight out of Mad Men. If its top rate cocktails your looking for, The Regent Cocktail Club is definitely the place to be.
